Raleigh, N.C. — A convicted sex offender was being held Monday evening in the Wake County Jail after he tried to volunteer at a Raleigh high school. School officials credit a security system for stopping him before he could get close to students.
Registered sex offender Marcus Jermaine Johnson, 30, of 1312 Arbor Greene Drive, Garner, was on the campus Wednesday of Athens Drive High School, police said.

Johnson, an alum, wanted to volunteer at the school, Wake County Public School System spokesman Greg Thomas said. When he signed in by entering his name and date of birth, the school's LobbyGuard digital kiosk, however, flagged him as someone who was not supposed to be there.

“There are systems in place to then alert the facility instantly,†Thomas said.

As Johnson waited for his visitor’s badge to print, the kiosk notified school officials that he was a registered sex offender.

"It (LobbyGuard) immediately checks the national sex offender registry, and any red-flag lists that the school has put in place," Thomas said.

Once Johnson's information was identified as a match for a sex offender he was asked to leave the school.

On Friday, Raleigh police charged Johnson with being a sex offender unlawfully on the premises intended for the care of minors, Thomas said.

LobbyGuard visitor management systems cost around $5,000 and are built by LobbyGuard Solutions LLC, 4700 Six Forks Road, Raleigh. The company has 700 installations across the United States.

"I am glad they (LobbyGuards) are there,†former student Laffenia Griffin said.

Griffin still has siblings at Athens High and said a background check process is needed.

"If he wasn't supposed to be here, he wasn't supposed to be here,†Griffin said.

Johnson was being held in the Wake County Jail under a $75,000 bond.

In 2005, Johnson was convicted of incest with a near relative, which is a second-degree sexual offense, and of statutory rape, in which he was at least 6 years older than the victim, in 1998, according to the North Carolina Department of Correction.

He was given probation for both convictions but served three months for violating his probation from the incest conviction. He was released on Dec. 25.

Johnson also has convictions for common-law robbery, larceny and assault on a policeman.

Calf Reunited With Mother, Sibling

SPOKANE, Wash. -- A Spokane family got an uninvited visitor when a moose calf fell through a basement window and into a bedroom.

The Spokesman Review reported that the baby moose was apparently foraging in shallow snow near the house Thursday when it fell into a deep window well. As it tried to get out and join its mother and sibling, the moose kicked in the window and became trapped in the bedroom.

A state wildlife biologist managed to shoot a tranquilizer dart into the moose's rump. Then he and four others used a tarp to haul the 375-pound baby up a narrow stairway.

Wildlife officers tracked down the calf's mother and sibling and trucked the reunited family to a spot near Mount Spokane and released them.

CHICAGO (AP) — The sheriff's office in Chicago has arrested more than 60 fugitives with a net of holiday cheer.
Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart said Sunday that the suspects were invited to take a retailers' survey for holiday shoppers at a hotel earlier this month. Participants who brought along a scratch-off card that was included with the survey were promised at least $500. Those who showed up were taken into custody. One man who arrived with marijuana in his pocket was charged with possession on top of his previous charges.

The fugitives had warrants for crimes including forgery and aggravated battery.

Australia (AP) - Scarlet is a stupid whore who needs electric shock therapy, at least 10,000 volts, followed by a frontal lobotomy. Unfortunately, the surgeons could not find the frontal lobe so they removed the cerebral cortex. Even more unfortunately, they did not remove the brain stem and feed her a bottle of bleach. She still lives today, spouting her bullshit on message boards.

Man accused of giving son steroids to motivate him

GILBERTVILLE, Iowa — A man has been arrested for giving his teenage son steroids to motivate him about sports. The man was charged with distributing a controlled substance to a minor.

Authorities said the investigation began after the man's 14-year-old son assaulted his mother at her Gilbertville home on Nov. 19. Officers who responded to the home found a syringe and 105 pills in the boy's bedroom.

Court records show that boy told investigators his father gave him the pills during an earlier weekend visitation. The records also show that the father admitted to giving his son the needle and the pills.

A test at the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation showed the pills were an anabolic steroid.

Danish SWAT team surrounds PlayStation shoot-'em-up

A couple of Danish gamers indulging in some light PlayStation shoot-'em-up action were on Saturday night treated to a visit by uniformed blokes carrying real guns after concerned neighbours called in the cops.

As far as we can make out from this report, two young men from Valby near Copenhagen were giving it some stick on a large flatscreen telly with the volume cranked up, prompting residents in their apartment block to suspect someone had been shot.

Cue rapid SWAT intervention, with the area sealed off and heavily-armed officers using megaphones to order the pair to surrender. The two apparently came quietly, and suffered nothing more than a temporary cuffing while police ascertained that the only danger posed was to the neighbourhood's peace and quiet.

John Hansen of Copenhagen police explained that officers never ignore a report of gunfire, even though many alerts turn out to be fireworks or other false alarms "as tonight's incident demonstrates".

CENTERVILLE, UTAH —

Police say a man's gun fell out of its holster while he pulled up his pants after using the bathroom at a Carl's Jr. restaurant Tuesday. The gun fired when it hit the floor and shattered the commode.

A few shards of porcelain cut the man's arm, and a woman in an adjacent restroom who was frightened by the noise reported she was having chest pain. Both people were checked at the scene and released.

Police say they confiscated the 26-year-old man's firearm while they review the incident. The man had a concealed weapons permit. No charges are being filed.

Authorities Take Adolf Hitler, Young Sisters From Parents
Wal-Mart Taking Heat for "Adolf Hitler" Cake

HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, N.J. - Three New Jersey siblings whose names have Nazi connotations have been placed in the custody of the state, police said Wednesday.

Holland Township Police Sgt. John Harris said workers from the state Division of Youth and Family Services removed 3-year-old Adolf Hitler Campbell and his younger sisters, JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell, from their home Tuesday.

Harris said family services did not tell police the reason the children were removed. Agency spokeswoman Kate Bernyk said it does not comment on specific cases.

The children and their parents, Heath and Deborah Campbell, received attention last month when a supermarket bakery refused to put Adolf Hitler Campbell's name on a birthday cake.

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL -- Port St. Lucie, Florida police are looking for two Coral Springs men who they suspect stole more than four dozen breast pumps from a local Babies "R" Us store.

Police first arrested John Grassano and Sean Loychik for shoplifting last month at a Babies "R" Us store.

A store manager recognized them as the same men who had stolen four breast pumps earlier in the month.

Grassano first told investigators he took the breast pumps for his pregnant daughter.

When asked why he need four, he explained he sells the rest on eBay.

Port St. Lucie police have reviewed surveillance video from the store and determined that the pair may have stolen as many as 51 breast pumps during 12-13 store visits.

All told, police say the stolen breast pumps are worth roughly $15,000.

Police plan to file additional charges against the men.

A spokesperson for Babies "R" Us had no comment on the alleged crime.

Here’s a very bizarre story of mistaken identity from the Houston Press. It seems some Galveston police were responding to a call complaining about prostitution. They went to the wrong address and allegedly attacked 12-year-old Dymond Milburn in the process of trying to arrest her.

Not only were the officers apparently at the wrong house, the callers complaining described White suspects and Dymond is African-American. A statement by the officers claims they thought the girl was a prostitute because of the “tight shorts†she was wearing. Sigh. It gets even worse than that. You’d think the offending officers might be contrite and help the city try to avoid the inevitable multi-million dollar settlement here. Nope, the officers went to Dymond’s school (where the 12-year-old is an honor student) and arrested her for assaulting a public servant.

Um, I put the question to our readers, specifically our female readers. If three strange guys jump out of a van and start trying to haul you off, aren’t you going to resist? Seems any rational person would. The officers were in plain clothes so it’s not like a 12-year-old could be expected to have any reaction other than being terrified. Today’s lesson? The only thing that puts you in worse shape than being completely wrong is being too proud and/or stupid to admit it.

SEOUL, South Korea – South Korean scientists say they have engineered four beagles that glow red using cloning techniques that could help develop cures for human diseases. The four dogs, all named "Ruppy" — a combination of the words "ruby" and "puppy" — look like typical beagles by daylight.
But they glow red under ultraviolet light, and the dogs' nails and abdomens, which have thin skins, look red even to the naked eye.
Seoul National University professor Lee Byeong-chun, head of the research team, called them the world's first transgenic dogs carrying fluorescent genes, an achievement that goes beyond just the glowing novelty.
"What's significant in this work is not the dogs expressing red colors but that we planted genes into them," Lee told The Associated Press on Tuesday.
His team identified the dogs as clones of a cell donor through DNA tests and earlier this month introduced the achievement in a paper on the Web site of the journal "Genesis."
Scientists in the U.S., Japan and in Europe previously have cloned fluorescent mice and pigs, but this would be the first time dogs with modified genes have been cloned successfully, Lee said.
He said his team took skin cells from a beagle, inserted fluorescent genes into them and put them into eggs before implanted them into the womb of a surrogate mother, a local mixed breed.
Six female beagles were born in December 2007 through a cloning with a gene that produces a red fluorescent protein that make them glow, he said. Two died, but the four others survived.
The glowing dogs show that it is possible to successfully insert genes with a specific trait, which could lead to implanting other, non-fluorescent genes that could help treat specific diseases, Lee said.
The scientist said his team has started to implant human disease-related genes in the course of dog cloning, saying that will help them find new treatments for genetic diseases such as Parkinson's. He refused to provide further details, saying the research was still under way.
A South Korean scientist who created glowing cats in 2007 based on a similar cloning technique said that Lee's puppies are genuine clones, saying he had seen them and had read about them in the journal.
"We can appraise this is a step forward" toward finding cures for human diseases, said veterinary professor Kong Il-keun at South Korea's Gyeongsang National University. "What is important now is on what specific diseases (Lee's team) will focus on."
Lee was a key aide to disgraced scientist Hwang Woo-suk, whose breakthroughs on stem cell research were found to have been made using faked data. Independent tests, however, later proved the team's dog cloning was genuine.

WASHINGTON – With global anxiety spreading even faster than the new swine flu — and a vaccine still months away — health authorities are struggling to reduce the impact of an outbreak that can't be contained by simply shutting borders.
The world has no vaccine to prevent infection but U.S. health officials aim to have a key ingredient for one ready in early May, the big step that vaccine manufacturers are awaiting. But even if the World Health Organization ordered up emergency vaccine supplies — and that decision hasn't been made yet — it would take at least two more months to produce the initial shots needed for human safety testing.
"We're working together at 100 miles an hour to get material that will be useful," Dr. Jesse Goodman, who oversees the Food and Drug Administration's swine flu work, told The Associated Press.
Meanwhile, health authorities are preparing for the worst. "I fully expect we will see deaths from this infection," said Dr. Richard Besser, acting director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The U.S. is shipping to states not only enough anti-flu medication for 11 million people, but also masks, hospital supplies and flu test kits. President Barack Obama asked Congress for $1.5 billion in emergency funds to help build more drug stockpiles and monitor future cases, as well as help international efforts to avoid a full-fledged pandemic.
"It's a very serious possibility, but it is still too early to say that this is inevitable," the WHO's flu chief, Dr. Keiji Fukuda, told a telephone news conference.
Cuba and Argentina banned flights to Mexico, where swine flu is suspected of killing more than 150 people and sickening well over 2,000. In a bit of good news, Mexico's health secretary, Jose Cordova, late Tuesday called the death toll there "more or less stable."
Mexico City, one of the world's largest cities, has taken drastic steps to curb the virus' spread, starting with shutting down schools and on Tuesday expanding closures to gyms and swimming pools and even telling restaurants to limit service to takeout. People who venture out tend to wear masks in hopes of protection.
The number of confirmed swine flu cases in the United States rose to 66 in six states, with 45 in New York, 11 in California, six in Texas, two in Kansas and one each in Indiana and Ohio, but cities and states suspected more. In New York, the city's health commissioner said "many hundreds" of schoolchildren were ill at a school where some students had confirmed cases.
New Zealand, Australia, Israel, Britain, Germany, Spain and Canada have also reported cases.
But only in Mexico so far are there confirmed deaths, and scientists remain baffled as to why.
The WHO argues against closing borders to stem the spread, and the U.S. — although checking arriving travelers for the ill who may need care — agrees it's too late for that tactic.
"Sealing a border as an approach to containment is something that has been discussed and it was our planning assumption should an outbreak of a new strain of influenza occur overseas. We had plans for trying to swoop in and knockout or quench an outbreak if it were occurring far from our borders. That's not the case here," Besser told a telephone briefing of Nevada-based health providers and reporters. "The idea of trying to limit the spread to Mexico is not realistic or at all possible."
"Border controls do not work. Travel restrictions do not work," WHO spokesman Gregory Hartl said in Geneva, recalling the SARS epidemic earlier in the decade that killed 774 people, mostly in Asia, and slowed the global economy.
Authorities sought to keep the crisis in context: Flu deaths are common around the world. In the U.S. alone, the CDC says about 36,000 people a year die of flu-related causes. Still, the CDC calls the new strain a combination of pig, bird and human viruses for which people may have limited natural immunity.
Hence the need for a vaccine. Using samples of the flu taken from people who fell ill in Mexico and the U.S., scientists are engineering a strain that could trigger the immune system without causing illness. The hope is to get that ingredient — called a "reference strain" in vaccine jargon — to manufacturers around the second week of May, so they can begin their own laborious production work, said CDC's Dr. Ruben Donis, who is leading that effort.
Vaccine manufacturers are just beginning production for next winter's regular influenza vaccine, which protects against three human flu strains. The WHO wants them to stay with that course for now — it won't call for mass production of a swine flu vaccine unless the outbreak worsens globally. But sometimes new flu strains pop up briefly at the end of one flu season and go away only to re-emerge the next fall, and at the very least there should be a vaccine in time for next winter's flu season, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the National Institutes of Health's infectious diseases chief, said Tuesday.
"Right now it's moving very rapidly," he said of the vaccine development.

If anything this last bunch of documents show that MOST countries are in on the game and ALLOW the US to do certain things with-in their borders.

The US, LONE RANGER? Not so much now is it.

There are other documents but I, like most other folks, have not read or studied all the cables. But early word ( according to BBC, Routers, AP etc etc ) is that these documents show a LOT of countries doing dirty shit and the US is not alone in having skeletons in the closet. Also, early reports point towards many countries actually APPROVING of US actions diplomatically while speaking out against those same actions to their own media outlets.
