Why the Occupy Movement is Failing

How long has this Occupy movement been going on? Who knows, it seems like forever. But I can tell you one thing, people are not talking about it as much as they were before.

Anyhoo, my facebook friend posted something about OWS and it made me think about the whole thing. (His post means nothing other than it reminded me that this thing was still going on.) Let me tell you why this is failing -- and why it will continue to fail until it fizzles out.

Ready? It has nothing to do with what they are protesting, but everything to do with how they are protesting. Which brings me to my first point: What are they protesting? Now, I understand that they are protesting the on-goings of wall-street and big banks, but what exactly do they want? How do they want it solved?

That brings me to my second, and main, point as to why this movement will fail. The idiots have gotten hold of the movement. This may have started as a movement by an intelligent group with real motives, but too many wanna-be socialist, fuck the world, type people got involved. Now the agenda has gotten to the point where no one really understands them or what they really want.

Let me squash a whole bunch of counter arguments right here. Do not bother to try and explain the movement... do not bother trying to explain the tragedies that are big banks and horrible government. My whole point is I represent the majority, not the people actually paying attention. If the OWS protestors want to make some real ground, they need to cater to my type - the real 99% that matter. Come up with a solid platform and a solid fix, spread that. Start small.

but everything to do with how they are protesting.
The "anti" crowd did a good job of showing me the right images of all the gatherings to get me in a pissy mood well before I heard what the gatherings were about.

The crowded shanty towns that spring up when you get that many lazy do nothings in one spot at one time were disgusting to behold.

Shifty, dirty, mealy mouth A-holes are not the poster child for middle America, so the "pro" media soon found as many 40+ dudes and chics as they could muster to hold them in the camera's light so we could forget the streaming masses of under 23 year olds that are still sucking the teats of home life.

And getting the over 70 year old Grams and Gramps in the mix .. bonus !!

^^

This is all from my do I like em or not perspective regardless of the message. They LOST the PR battle in my opinion, at least for me they did.

BTW .. I don't care about the message or the messengers. Fuck em, won't matter, won't change anything.

My thoughts exactly. Regardless of what their true message was, it is now lost. Using facebook as a gauge, I can honestly say I have not seen one message about what their movement was actually doing since Thanksgiving. The only thing I have seen is how the police are mistreating them.

Gotta say, I'm utterly shocked. First time I've been back in a long time, and I'm actually agreeing with the Kommie. What in the hell did I miss?

The big problem I have is the complete lack of personal responsibility displayed here. Its not the government's responsibility to take care of you - its your responsibility to take care of yourself.

You're right to an extent, but it IS the government's responsibility to ensure that our rights are being protected and that bad business practices don't completely fuck over our economy. The government SHOULD HAVE prevented the 2008 collapse, but Republicans managed to weaken or completely get rid of all the financial regulations and let them regulate themselves.

Republicans? Last I checked Bill Clinton was a Democrat and it was Clinton who pushed for financial deregulation. Banks and mortgages were deregulated and when he got called on it, around his third year in office I think, he reversed his position and tried to toss the blame on congress, which at the time was primarily Republican. Just saying.

On topic, the occupy movement is a joke. Here in Idaho its not the police the movement has to fear, its the business owners. Local businesses were openly hostile to the movement and police were staged not to control the occupy movement, but to protect the hapless idiots from business owners throwing them a beating.

The movement does indeed give hippies a bad name. At least hippies had the occasional half naked hot chick washing in the local water fountain, these people are just nasty.

I think I have to reiterate that I'm not necessarily opposed to OWS ideals. My problem with the whole thing is it is just a bumblefuck of garbage, instead of a firm political stance.
